I just caught the season premiere on the cable and he walks on water again and the spectators experienced spiritual ecstasy and swam out to touch him and he held his arms out like Christ the whole time.
Which also raises the question of who is better, Blaine or Angel?
Criss Angel just ripped a woman in half in a park and her halves are like running around the park and people are probably actually pissing their pants with spiritual experiences.
I am not making this up!!!!!!
This season sees Criss wearing MORE DIAMONDS RINGS THAN EVERS!!!!!!
I love Blaine VERY MUCH but I also feel that the general population is more attracted to a Criss Angel type character so he reaches maybe a larger audience and really believes in the "Mindfreak" concept so hard and he also just has really great personal style.
Blaine is more like this masochistic sage jedi or whatever. Such a different vibe.
Criss Angel pro: When he hosted that "America's Next Great Magician" show, he made it very clear that magic is just a show. "We all" know that magic isn't real, but honestly, I'm glad to see someone clarifying that for the more naive among us.
Yeah, but then people get duped into stuff like "Crossing Over" and talking to dead relatives. I think he wants to debunk all of that. He's maybe the heir to Randi.
This is not a debate as to Blaine's abilities. I think Blaine is TRUE MAGIC and Angel is CONCEPTUAL ART ABOUT TRICKERY AND THE HUMAN DESIRE TO BE CONVINCED OF MAGIC.
I feel that Criss Angel has capitalized on some part of the human condition which has allowed him giant diamond handcuff bling and potentially boning BSpears. Is he not fulfilling some role in humanity?
I think Criss Angel is the most "Las Vegas" human I have ever seen.
I fully believe in Magic and Blaine and his respect for the practice in general.
When Angel rips that lady in half it made me feel like the fabric of the universe was ripped open, which is to say, very uncomfortable.
Blaine is getting weirder into endurance and real tests of the mind and body, Angel is straight up fucking with your head and looking totally HOTT while doing so.
I have a really funny amazing book by Blaine on Blaine and I think everyone should read it. I like Penn and Teller too! Am I just a sucker for magic?????????? OR CONCEPTUAL ART???????
Angel's illusions are so terrifying sometimes! Brush on abs.
I am kind of with Krystal on this. Blaine is practicing a much older, hallowed tradition of both magic, healing, psychology, spiritualism -- a complex tapestry. A purer art. Very little "showmanship," or, as it is, a much more subtle kind of showmanship. He is a real magician, in the sense that one does not even question his "trickery." People want to believe. Blaine maybe isn't someone you want coming to your party -- there's something about him that makes people uneasy, which is perhaps the key to his success.
With Angel it's more of a visceral thing. Like, people freaking out and barfing because they are so impressed with some ornately over-the-top thing he's done. While Blaine is Houdini, Angel is Evil Knievel. There is really no comparison. Which isn't to say that either is superior: it appeals to a different segment of the populace. Criss Angel is the dude you might want at a party.
However there is something incredibly attractive about the pure trainwreck that is "MIND FREAK" the program. It is so profoundly ugly that it's almost artful. I hope deeply in my heart that it's an elaborate joke (ie conceptual art).
The most ridiculous televised "magic" trick belongs to Angel. He had some dude at a dealership hide the keys to a car then lead the person to the car they hid the keys in... pretty cool, eh? I think he got to keep the car or something...
Except it took him two hours of leading the guy around the parking lot by the elbow and "reading his mind" (ie: detecting his subconscious muscle movements toward and away from the hiding place). Even after cutting it down for TV it was like watching paint dry.
But at least I have never screamed "That's NOT magic!" at the TV in response to one of Angel's stunts. With Blaine, on the other hand, it's seems a near daily occurrence.
