just a quick note to the urho faithful announcing my newest project Purple & Green, a collaboration with singer Justin “J Green” Johnson. we make digital funk music, soulful diva house anthems, portland funky, portland touch, electronic music with beats and singing, dance oriented music with strong vocal presence, etc. basically the farthest away from white rainbow 45 minute ambient music as you can get and still be awesome. please give a listen and tell us what you think!

BACK IN OCTOBER 2010, I WAS RANDOMLY IN NEW YORK FOR A FEW DAYS. THROUGH FRIENDS (AND ON VERY SHORT NOTICE) I GOT A FEW WHITE RAINBOW GIGS LINED UP.
THIS ALBUM IS RECORDINGS OF THOSE THREE LIVE SHOWS.
THE FIRST SHOW WAS FOR A YOGA CLASS AT DUSK ON TOP OF A DERELICT BUILDING IN BUSHWICK. THE ROOF LOOKED OUT DIRECTLY ONTO THE JMZ ELEVATED SUBWAY PLATFORM. THE SQUEALS OF THE TRAINS MIXED WITH THE SOUND OF THE TWO SHITTY PRACTICE AMPS I WAS PLAYING THRU WHILE AROUND 30 OR SO PEOPLE DID YOGA. THE SUN SET, DAY TURNED TO NIGHT, PEOPLE GOT CALM. I CAUGHT A WOMAN THE NEXT BUILDING OVER WATCHING US IN CURIOSITY. I WONDERED WHAT SHE THOUGHT. THE RECORDING HAS LOTS OF KILLER WIND NOISE BURSTS!
THE SECOND SHOW WAS A LAST MINUTE JUMP-ON WITH A BUNCH OF YOUNG COOL BANDS @ THE ALL AGES VENUE “MONSTER ISLAND BASEMENT”. I PLAYED EARLY AND QUICKLY TO THE FEW FRIENDS OF MINE THAT SHOWED UP. I HEARD IT GOT CROWDED FOR THE REST OF THE SHOW, BUT IT WAS JUST AMBIENT AIR HORNS AND COW BELL BLASTS TO A HALF EMPTY ROOM FROM ME…
THE THIRD SHOW WAS THE NEXT NIGHT AT A SECRET LOFT WAREHOUSE LOCATION DEEP IN AN OTHERWISE COMPLETELY HASIDIC NEIGHBORHOOD. THE PA WAS BIG BUT THE BASS KEPT ON CUTTING OUT. BILLED AS A RECORD RELEASE SHOW FOR ONE OF THE OTHER ACTS THAT PLAYED, IT WAS BASICALLY A PARTY WITH KEGS AND LOTS OF PEOPLE I DIDN’T KNOW. I AGAIN ASKED TO PLAY EARLY… AND HAD FUN MAKING A COOL PARTY GROOVE AND DOING SOME AD-LIB TALKIN AND TOASTING ON TOP. TOLD PEOPLE WHERE THE BEER WAS AND STUFF.

really long realy deep ambient soundscape works. the first one “music for a circular room” was originally recorded for use as background music for a Doug Aitken installation in around 2008. The other two tracks, “Skys Position” and “Gnar Two (Remix of Gnar)” are both recordings that were originally going to be the 3rd LP of my 2009 Kranky release New Clouds. for various reasons, the triple vinyl was nixed and they ended up on this tape/digital release. The White Rainbow digital micro-album Boring Guitar Music (which i recorded one day back in march and previously put up as a free download via sendspace), is now available thru bandcamp.com, which hosts bands’ albums as donation-ware aka pay-what-you want downloads. Pretty cool site, as all proceeds go to the bands (for now)(besides paypal’s fee), which is a cool way to be.
