THEN THERE WAS THE VIBE ZONE:
Here's a photo steve took of the 24 hour vibe zone we did last weekend... Boy was THAT long.....E*rock, Garrick (aka Stag Hare) and i spend much of friday night and saturday afternoon building this:

and then from 5pm saturday until 5pm sunday people gently popped in and popped out, jammed a bit, made some noise.
around 630pm Michael Hamilton and his partner Sara popped with french horns and bassoons and looper pedals. Brian Thackeray got in for a minute, as did Jason Buehler.....it was a cool scene. some kids came with their dad. Fox was running around too. Fun times.
830pm: Strategy's set was awesome 4 track cassette tape loops through various filters and delays. nice sounds,
10pm: there was a Dub-step night in the adjacent room that blasted us with bass for most of the evening (until around 230am) but Tom Greenwood took it and stride and just DJ'ed weird records and loops on top of it. E*rock added blasts.
1am Jordan played viola for a while after that, with some girls singing and whooping and playing flutes..
things got more confusing and vaporous and late night mushy. plus the dubstep bass kept it weird.
3am Gabe Mindell came over after the last Yellow Swans show on saturday night and jammed a bit with me and eric. a little while later we got some late night after-hours party people in there, but i don't know if our mellow ambient vibes suited their post-bar party vibes. or maybe it was perfect. i couldn't tell, i was really tired. I remember Kelvin and I making a loop out of him whistling, but it was mostly wind noise. At some point, Tom Blood approached the Dome. I played until i couldn't open my eyes or move my hands
430am Tom Blood and Andy Brown unexpected combo jam that went from around 430am until around 830am. then honey woke up and brought them some McDonalds breakfast...
i fell asleep around 730 until about 1pm sunday, in which time i think Tom and Eric and Andy finally lost steam and honey started jamming with no-one around.....
1pm sunday : Curtis brought over the Rob Van for early afternoon on sunday and proceeded to blast some crunk

3pm-ish sunday randomly, James Squeaky came and did a set. a refreshing dose of tape noise to clear the ambient pallet. nice.
then eric and honey and i jammed and finally started taking things apart around 430pm........the whole thing was pretty awesome.......
Garrick's Stag Hare project is something i cannot recommend highly enough. super deep chant/chimes/swells from downtown city life SLC hyphy. He was laying it down heavy off and on throughout the event. Such a kind dude. It was nice to meet him and hang out. I'm mastering his new record right now, and it will probably come out on A.Star (a little label his homies run as a collective)
some kids hitch-hiked all the way from Eugene to be there. They stayed up the entire time. Me, I crashed out of exhaustion around 7am Sunday and woke up and got back in the zone around 2pm for the last few hours of madness. All-in-all a fun, exhausting mellow zone. It was fun building the geo-dome. now if i ever end up going to that nasty cyber-tribal festival in the desert i will have both the dome building and the MIDI skills to impress all of the naked 'freaks'....
Next up: the White Rainbow, Tussle, Cluster show in SF that's coming up in a couple weeks.....
oh yeah, and did you see honey in the paper?

Kyle is one of my deepest, oldest homies. We've played a lot of music together over the years and its always a complete delight and pleasure when he graces us with his presence up here in the Northwest. He is a very funny, bright, talented, brilliant light of a man, and none who attend this special event will leave disappointed. So please come out!

visual proof of harsh realities
video proof that it wasn't nearly as harsh as the photo would indicate. actually, it was really really fun (thanks Sonia from comments!)
White Rainbow Adam Forkner Pauly Shore Interview from analogmonkey.tv on Vimeo.
i sorta feel bad i wasn't more OMG OMG ITS PAULY SHORE...he caught me off guard. i feel like i might have been a little rude to him...SORRY PAUL!!! i should have given you a better 'in' to make some more cool jokes with me....regardless, thanks for making my day/week/month/year/life! i hope you're cool we put this up on the internets...
i was getting interviewed by mike from analogmonkey (who are a rad team of people making a documentary about the tour we were just on)...check out more awesome music footage (including a KILLLER valet live set in HD) on their vimeo and/or their youtube
thanks for catching this special moment, mike!
and it's true, we did meet john norris earlier in the tour (and again at sxsw!), and he is a very nice, very cool dude.
just back from tour....shit was long and fun and exhausting....
But the piste de résistance had to be the encore return. After Forkner, sounding “like Larry the Cable Guy”, egged the crowd into shouting for Cox’s return, the whole group returned shirtless – including drummer Stephanie Macksey and bassist Honey Owens (of first opener, Valet), and Owens wasn’t wearing even wearing a bra (“when you’re pushing forty, you just gotta let it all hang out” – she did then tie her shirt’s arms around her neck, covering herself by wearing it like an apron). Yes, you got to see Cox’s ultra-skinny torso, but he was anything but ashamed, crashing guitars with Forkner and wailing on an unfamiliar new number, going so far as to get on his knees at the front of the stage and play to the light of a fan’s encore flame. Not the show you’d expect, not a show you’d forget…from qromag's review of the willamsburg show
oh the memories.......
the rad new homie Sloan put up the valet and white rainbow sets from athens and atlanta on his awesome blog in mp3 and FLAC formats...check it out http://southernshelter.com
now off to boston in the fixed up cryptovan and hopefully not too much snow!

tour has been fucking crazy. van started fucking up around DC on thursday, we drove to baltimore got it looked at on friday, they couldnt fix it so we got a rental and drove to phil, borrowed a bunch of gear last minute, played a show, hung out, woke up, drove it back to baltimore, our van still not fixed, got a bigger rental, drove to new york, pulled up to mercury lounge at 830 on saturday, got a ticket for talking on the cell phone while trying to park the rental, met john norris of mtv news ?!?!?!, somehow lost the ticket in all the rock and roll fracas sunday was a show in brooklyn big pro place, not that packed, oscar night.... the car i was in on the way to the bar afterwards got pulled over for no headlight/me being in the car, keyboardist almost broke his ankle and had to go to a doctor the next morning, now on crutches. kristin and stephanie went back to baltimore to return the rental and get the van today then drove to phili to pick up the pedals honey left at the club friday night..... on monday honey brad and i hopped a ride with a film crew to play at vassar, left at 3pm got back at 3am. tomorrow we are supposed to go to boston and then on to montreal and so forth, but there is a huge blizzard scheduled to hit boston tomorrow, so we'll see.....
the white rainbow sets have been fun, its hard to get all calm and focused for my shows while in such a constant rush...whiskey has helped a bit. honey's valet sets with brian and bradford are seriously the best valet sets i have ever seen and heard. the drums and samples and keyboards bringing added depth and undulating pulses or psychedelic blues bliss. mmmm
atlas sound sets have been pretty fun. its fun to play songs again as opposed to the straight ambient improv i do, and it seems like for the most part the audiences have liked what we add to bradford's songs. its a very interesting combo of bands on this trip for sure.
also, return of dog drugs...
Thanks Lyn!!!!!
